A VERY  HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE FROM THE CLERGY, CHURCH WARDENS AND STAFF OF ST GILES’ PARISH CHURCH.

 

ACTIVE AND VISIBLE  We have welcomed over 5,000 visitors to St Giles’ during December, through services for the community and schools and Christmas concerts. We continue to pray that our mission to be a visible and active Christian witness at the heart of this town will grow and flourish throughout 2017.

HELPING THE HOMELESS   Many thanks for all the continuing contributions.  Could we please concentrate on Mars bars and protein bars?  They are readily obtainable in  Pound Shops and Paul Thorpe tells us that they are particularly short of them at the moment,  

CALLING ALL KNITTERS!   We have a large amount of wool at our disposal, and it is offered to anyone who could knit fingerless gloves and/or hats. These also are for the relief of the homeless on the streets of Wrexham. Please see the Wardens or Stella if you can help.

VIENNESE GALA CONCERT  The New Sinfonia Concert , conducted by Robert Guy, takes place on Monday 2nd January at 3pm.  Tickets are £15, concessions £10, Students £3  and can be obtained from the Wrexham Tourist Information Centre, or online at the New Sinfonia website.

MOTHERS’ UNION  The subscriptions are now due  (£18.50, indoor members  £17.50).  Please hand to Joanna in a named envelope before the AGM on 9th January.  New members are very welcome

MEN’S SOCIETY  There will be no meeting in January, but it is hoped that a visit to the Berwyn Prison may be arranged shortly

NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS   This afternoon,  we hold our annual service of Lessons and Carols at 3pm, when we will be welcoming the Headteacher and some of the pupils of St Giles’ School among the Readers.  Please come if you can to this important preparation for Christmas.

WREXHAM YOUTH ORCHESTRA CONCERT  We are very pleased to be welcoming this very enjoyable event once again to St Giles’ tomorrow (Monday) evening, celebrating the talent and dedication of our young musicians and all their tutors.

 

PRISON CAROL SERVICE.  If you would like to attend this service at the Prison on Wednesday afternoon at 5pm, please give your names to the Wardens or Stella or Ann by tomorrow (Monday) morning at the latest.

MANY THANKS TO ALL who contributed in any way to the Victorian Market, including the preparation, the manning of stalls, the clearing up, and reorganising of the Church after this splendid event.  All help was very much appreciated.  The  healthy sum of £3,500 was raised for St Giles’. 

MOTHERS’ UNION CHOIR  We are invited to lead some Carol singing at the Memory Café on Tuesday this week, at 2pm.  Please come if you possibly can.

SCHOOLS’ CELEBRATIONS  This week, Acton Park, Gwenfro and St Giles’ Schools will each be celebrating Christmas here.  We welcome all the pupils, teachers and parents who will be sharing the glory of this place.  

CHRISTMAS LUNCHES   The Mothers’ Union Lunch tales place at Rossett Hall tomorrow at 1.30pm. Our St Giles’ Church Lunch is on Thursday at 12pm in the South Aisle on Thursday.  Please make sure that you have booked with Stella  for the latter –  £8 (£10 for friends).

NEXT SUNDAY  we shall be holding our Nine Lessons and Carols Service at 3pm, and so begins our journey to Christmas Eve, with the Crib Service at 4pm, the Midnight Service beginning at 11.30pm and our Christmas Eucharist at 10am.

RAFFLE PRIZE  Janice Roberts holds a winning ticket!  Unfortunately we have no further details and cannot let her know.  Can anyone help to identify her please?

HOMELESS IN WREXHAM  Many thanks for the contributions made already towards this appeal.  Paul Thorpe is extremely grateful for all the sustaining goods donated.  Please keep them coming.  

EVENTS THIS WEEK This a very busy week at St Giles, with the Victorian Market, the Manchester Police Choir and Soloists, and the Glyndwr Community Choir here on three consecutive days.  Tomorrow and Tuesday we welcome also two visits from Ysgol Plas Coch for their Christmas Services. We are delighted to be host to all these events, and will enjoy being part of them.

VICTORIAN MARKET   This takes place on Thursday 8th December.  Items for the raffle Hamper, for the Tombola Stall and for the Craft Stall are all most welcome.  Please sign up also if you can help on any of the stalls.

CLEANING DAY  We are planning a thorough cleaning day on Friday 9th December, following the Victorian Market. If you can help at any time between 10am and 4pm, it will be very much appreciated.

MEN’S SOCIETY   The Men’s Society Christmas Dinner will be held in the Ramada Hotel on Tuesday, 6th December, at 6.30 p.m. for 7 p.m.   The three-course meal, including a drink, will cost £17. A list for names and choice of menu is at the back of Church.

MOTHERS’ UNION CHRISTMAS LUNCH takes place at Rossett Hall on 12th December  at 1.30pm. All bookings for this event have now been finalised.

CHURCH CHRISTMAS LUNCH   This will be held on Thursday 15th December at 12.30pm in the South Aisle. Tickets are £8 (£10 for friends) and are available from Stella and the Wardens.
